Paraplegic Climber Summits Kilimanjaro

41-year-old Chris Waddell climbed to the tallest peak in Africa, without the use of his legs. He was a competitive skier at Middlebury College when an accident on the slopes in 1988 left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Waddell triumphed over Mt. Kilimanjaro using a custom four-wheel bike and help from a team who used tracks and winches. It took seven days to scale the more than 19-thousand foot mountain.

"That people look at the next person with a disability and that they see it's not a matter of 'oh that's too bad, look at what you've lost,' it's well, 'what are you going to do?' That people look at it and say 'OK, you can do whatever you want,' is what I am saying," said Waddell.
