Sabrina Brini took a deaf, abandoned pit bull and taught him sign language. In return, he taught her the power of love.
When Brini first met Duncan, in 2003, he was a 12-week-old puppy in desperate need of a home. But Duncan didn't exactly have the cuddliest of resumes. Not only was he a pit bull, a breed with a man-made reputation for fighting and biting, but he actually had a criminal background -- he first came to the Animal Care and Control (AC&C) shelter in Brooklyn, New York, after his owner had been nabbed in a drug raid. The alleged drug dealer's uncle had then claimed him, only to return him to the shelter because, the man said, the dog was "stupid." The AC&C staff knew that albino animals are often deaf, so they tested Duncan's hearing. Sure enough, that -- not lack of intelligence -- was the reason he wasn't responding normally..............

I love these types of stories! I'm constantly disgusted at how ignorant people are about the breed. Thank you for sharing - you've restored my faith in humanity...for today at least. :-)
